Small towns like Marion are filled with traditions, and the Marion Old Fashioned Day has been going on forever 120 years, maybe.

Nicole Ashby-Johnson, the President of the Marion Village Chamber of Commerce, says "Last year we actually had our 120th year anniversary. But some people have looked into the history of it and say there are some discrepancies there. So approximately 120 years."

The festival has evolved into a 4 day event that begins the first weekend of August, with Thursday marking the first day, with events starting at 7pm.

Festivities wrap up Sunday morning, but not before an annual parade on Saturday, with vendors lining up main street, and families making memories at all the events.

Nicole tells us "Saturday is completely full. We have a children's parade starting out the day and then the grand parade starts at 10:30. Then we have events all day long, different events. Ice cream or banana split eating contest. We have bounce houses for the kids all day long. Kids games. We have a bed race right on Main Street."

This year, they are even hosting fireworks.

She adds "And then rounding out Saturday night, we're having for the first time ever fireworks. So we're pretty excited about fireworks over the millpond. And then Sunday, we even have a volleyball tournament. So just tons going on."

Nicole adds that it is a great opportunity for people to get to know the little town.

"Old Fashioned Days is really our highlight event for Marion. It's the biggest event that we have of the year. It's a really good opportunity to get people out of town to come into town and see how many amazing things we have to offer. Marion's a really great little town, but people often overlook it. "
