A kayaker is safe after the Coast Guard found them adrift near Illinois.

Late Monday night, U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City received an initial report from U.S. Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan of a kayaker adrift near Montrose Harbor in Illinois.

Early Tuesday morning, the aircrew search the area and identified they kayaker via the helicopter's infrared camera.

With local support from Coast Guard Station Kenosha, Wisconsin, the aircrew provided a direction and distance of the survivor to the 45-foot response boat, leading to the rescue.

The survivor was taken to medical care ashore shortly after.
