As we finalize the great coaching career of former Gaylord wrestling head coach Jerry LaJoie.

In his final season with the blue devils, three of his wrestlers won state championship.  The third member of the group is Ty Bensinger.  He won the state title in 190-pound weight class. Bensinger won under unusual circumstances. He faced Goodrich's Easton Phipps in a tight battle, then Phipps slammed Bensinger onto the mat directly, giving him a concussion and knocking him unconscious.  The Blue Devil was ruled medically unable to continue.  The slam was ruled illegal, so Bensinger was awarded the state championship via disqualification.  Bensinger says he wished wrestled the full six minutes to determine the outcome, but he says put in a lot of hardwork to reach the pinnacle.
